WSOP Circuit Event: Harrah's New Orleans $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em

WSOP, 2007-05-24, by Ozone

The final WSOP Circuit Event of the 2006-2007 season was held this week at Harrah's in New Orleans. With the start of the 38th annual World Series of Poker just days away, 346 players showed up to test their no-limit skills. The story for much of the tournament was the dominating chip lead of poker pro Phil Gordon. In an almost unheard of comeback, Gordon was all-in for his last 525 chips with King-Two against Ace-Queen on a King-Jack-Ten board, but hit running twos to stay alive. He grew his chip stack from there and was the chip leader at the end of day one and day two.

At the final table, Gordon ran into some tough times and finished in 4th place to win $116,000. New York businessman Louie Esposito finished first. In addition to the $516,000 first-place prize, Louie also received a seat to the WSOP Main Event. Second place and $266,000 went to Clint Schaefer.

Of course, none of these performances rival that of Me, 18th for $13,337.
