2007 WSOP Event #15: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em

WSOP, 2007-06-12, by Ozone

The $1,500 buy-in for event fifteen was affordable enough to lure a staggering field of 2,628 players. None of these players were able to stop Phil Hellmuth from winning his eleventh career WSOP bracelet. With his win, Hellmuth broke a three-way tie with Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson for most career bracelets.

At the start of the 2005 WSOP, all three players were tied at nine career bracelets. That year, Johnny Chan won the race to ten, but was matched by Doyle Brunson just days later. Hellmuth had to wait a full year before evening himself with the competition by winning his tenth bracelet. Now, it is Chan and Brunson who must play catch-up; Phil Hellmuth sits alone at the top of the WSOP career bracelets list with eleven wins.

En route to a $637,000 payday, Hellmuth's last opponent was Dr. Andy Philacheck. Second place earned Philacheck $394,000. Young pro Scott Clements won $112,000 for fifth place. The list of the 270 players who finished in the money in this tournament is largely void of recognizable names.
