2007 Event #39: $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship

WSOP, 2007-06-29, by Ozone

Arguably the most prestigious poker tournament in the world took place this week. The second annual $50,000 buy-in WSOP H.O.R.S.E. event drew 148 players this year, up five from last year. Oft-televised pro Freddy Deeb captured the win which gave him $2,276,000 and the second WSOP bracelet of his career. Deeb's only other bracelet came way back in 1996 in the $5,000 Deuce to Seven Draw Championship. That event drew a mere 24 players.

After a long heads-up battle, Bruno Fitoussi settled for the $1,279,000 second-place payday. Fitoussi has never won a WSOP bracelet.

The only player to return to the final table from last year's group was David Singer. After finishing 6th last year, Singer repeated that placement and won $337,000. Perhaps the most notable name at the final table was Barry Greenstein, who finished 7th to win $260,000.

Others in the money were Greg Raymer (14th - $103,000) and Mike Matusow (16th - $88,800).
