Unibet CEO Arrested
Law, 2007-10-23, by Ozone
Dutch authorities arrested Petter Nylander, CEO of Unibet last night. Unibet is best known for online bookmaking, but they also have a poker room. The arrest warrant was issued by France, a country with a gaming monopoly that is not in line with European Union standards. A spokesman for the EU said, "it could very well be that somebody has been arrested who is innocent."
Nylander's arrest branches from a 2006 lawsuit filed against Unibet for interfering with French gaming monopolies. The EU spokesman said that France has until the end of this month to conform with EU gaming monopoly standards.
