WPT Season #6: World Poker Finals $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em
WPT, 2007-11-14, by Ozone
Although Foxwoods Resort Casino is nestled away in rural Connecticut, 575 hopefuls still showed up for this week's WPT event. Locals were treated to recognizable faces at the televised final table. Last year's winner, Nenad Medic, and 2005's winner, Nick "TheTakeover" Schulman, both reached the final table.
At the end of the tournament, little-known Mike Vela found himself playing three-handed with the two former champions. Unfazed, he eliminated them both to win the $1,700,000 first place prize. Schulman took $865,000 for second place, bringing his career earnings from this tournament alone to over $3,000,000. Medic won $486,000 for third place.
Online cash-game phenom Tom "Durrr" Dwan finished 4th, good for $325,000. Also in the money were Freddy Deeb (9th - $108,000), T.J. Cloutier (12th - $72,000), and Ray Coburn (37th - $13,000).
The next World Poker Tour event is in Las Vegas for the $15,000 buy-in Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic.
