David Pham Wins 2007 Player of the Year

Tournaments, 2007-12-31, by Ozone

As 2007 comes to a close, David "The Dragon" Pham sits in first place on Card Player's Player of the Year standings. Pham appeared at the final table in 11 major tournaments this year. In March, he won two tournaments in three days at the Bicycle Casino's "Winnin 'O' the Green" series. He twice made the final table in a WPT championship event, including a second place finish good for $800,000 in August's Legends of Poker series.

Pham's closest competition came from J.C. Tran, who led the POY standings for much of the year. Jonathan Little's three WPT final table appearances (including a $1.1 million win at the Mirage Poker Showdown) earned him third place honors on this year's list. Scott Clements, who won both a WSOP bracelet as well as a WPT event this year, finished fourth. Bill Elder accomplished an identical feat to finish fifth.

This is the second time Pham has won Player of the Year honors. He won in 2000, and nearly again in 2004 when he finished second behind Daniel Negreanu.
