WPT Season #6: Borgata Winter Open $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em

WPT, 2008-02-01, by Ozone

Atlantic City's Borgata hosted 507 hopefuls in a World Poker Tour event this week. Gavin Griffin navigated the tough field to notch his first win on the WPT. In doing so, the 26 year old became the first person to win a WSOP bracelet, an EPT title, and a WPT title.

In 2004, Gavin set a record as the youngest player ever to win a WSOP bracelet. That record has since been broken repeatedly. Last year, he won the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. The $1.4 million he received from this week's win brings his career earnings to a staggering $4.4 million.

After starting the final table with the chip lead, David Tran won $737,000 for second. Lee Watkinson finished 5th to win $282,000.

Other notable finishes include: Justin Bonomo (8th - $135,000), Men Nguyen (10th - $64,000), Jared "TheWacoKidd" Hamby (18th - $32,000), and John Juanda (40th - $17,000).

The next WPT event is in Los Angeles at the end of this month. Held at the Commerce Casino, the L.A. Poker Classic is traditionally one of the most popular WPT events of the year. Last year's event drew 791 players and was won by first-timer Eric Hershler.
