WPT, 2008-04-11, by Ozone

A two decade long poker career highlighed by eight World Series of Poker bracelets and he still might not be at his peak: Erik Seidel won the Foxwoods Poker Classic this week for $992,000. Coupled with his second place finish at the Aussie Millions, Seidel has overtaken Michael McDonald for a commanding lead in the CardPlayer Player of the Year standings.

His career winnings now sit at a staggering $8.7 million. The win moved him past Men Nguyen, Jerry Yang, and Juan Carlos Mortensen for 8th on the all-time list.

Unknown player Robert Richardson made a splash with his first career money finish. He earned $558,000 for second place. A seasonsed pro and Vegas resident like Seidel, Ted Forrest finished 6th for $103,000.

The number of entrants in this year's Foxwoods Poker Classic was down to 346 from 415. Its backwoods location is unattractive to many touriing pros. Additionally, many of them opt to participate in preliminary events for the WPT World Championship. Juan Carlos Mortensen will look to defend his title in the $25,000 buy-in event which starts on April 19th.
