EPT Season #4: Monte Carlo Grand Final €10,000 No-Limit Hold'em

EPT, 2008-04-18, by Ozone

The fourth season of the European Poker Tour concluded this week with the Monte Carlo Grand Final. This tournament is proving to be one of the most popular of the year. Just two years ago, only 298 players participated in the €10,000 buy-in finale. This year, an astounding 842 players came together to build a prize pool that awarded the winner with more than $3,000,000.

That lucky winner came from Canada. Twenty-two year old Glen Chorny waded through a tough final table to take down the huge prize. Second-place went to Denes Kalo who is no stranger to such a finish. Earlier in the season, the Hungarian finished second in the EPT Baden Main Event for just under $500,000. The Monte Carlo runner-up effort netted him a cool $1,850,000.

Online sensation Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron finished in fourth to win $930,000. Luca Pagano won $532,000 for sixth. The most recognizable face at the final table was that of Antonio Esfandiari who finished 8th to win $265,000.

2005 World Champion Joe Hachem came up just short on a chance to overtake Jamie Gold for first place on the career winnings list. He finished 11th for $159,000.

The fifth season of the EPT will likely start sometime after the conclusion of this summer's World Series of Poker.
