2008 WSOP Event #33: $5,000 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo

WSOP, 2008-06-20, by Ozone

Finding one's self heads-up against Chris "Jesus" Ferguson for a WSOP bracelet must be awfully intimidating. Apparently, it didn't bother German Sebastian Ruthenberg too much. The two met heads-up in the $5,000 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo World Championship yesterday. When heads-up play started, Ferguson held a 3:2 chip lead.

Thanks to Ferguson's slow style of play and the nature of split pot games, heads-up play lasted nearly three hours. In that time, Ruthenberg slowly and methodically chipped away at Ferguson. For doing so, he won $328,000 to accompany his first WSOP bracelet. His previous biggest win was for 3rd place in last year's EPT Dortmund event for $228,000.

Ferguson is having a frustrating time trying to win his sixth bracelet; this is now the forth time he has lost heads-up in a WSOP event since winning his fifth bracelet in 2003. For his efforts in this event, Ferguson $202,000.

Marcel Luske finished fourth for $95,000 and Annie Duke made her first final table of this year's series with a fifth place finish.
