WPT Season #7: Festa Al Lago $15,000 No-Limit Hold'em
WPT, 2008-10-27, by Ozone
This has been a sweet year for Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. The online phenom turned live superstar now sits #2 on the Card Player POY Standings after capturing the Festa Al Lago championship at Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Amidst a global economic meltdown, 368 players still turned up for the $15,000 buy-in championship. Grospellier's win netted him $1.4 million. This was his second huge victory of 2008; in January, he won the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $2 million. John Phan still maintains a commanding lead for player of the year honors.
Nam Le continued what has been an impressive fall with a second place finish good for $943,000. Last month, Le won the "high rollers" event at APPT Macau for nearly half a million. WPT champion and WSOP bracelet holder Nenad Medic finished 4th for $373,000. Online legend Adam "Roothlus" Levy took 5th for $266,000, the largest score of his live poker career.
Other notable finishes were:
Michael DeMichele (8th - $106,000)
Joe Sebok (9th - $85,000)
Justin Bonomo (17th - $42,000)
Scott Clements (19th - $42,000)
Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron (20th - $37,300)
The next WPT event starts next week in Connecticut for the Foxwoods World Poker Finals.
