Tom Dwan Issues Million Dollar Challenge

Online Poker, 2009-01-06, by Ozone

Tom "durrr" Dwan issued a challenge to the poker world last weekend. He will play anyone in the world (except Phil Galfond) four tables at a time at stakes of $200-$400. They must play a total of 50,000 hands of heads-up poker. If Dwan ends up ahead of his opponent, they owe him an additional $500,000. If the opponent beats Dwan, he'll give them an additional $1.5 million.

Two top pros, David Benyamine and Phil Ivey have already accepted Dwan's challenge. Ivey told Barry Greenstein in an interview that he thinks it will be hard to complete 50,000 hands without someone having to quit as a result of being stuck $5-$10 million.

It seems that Benyamine will be first in line to play Dwan. The 22 year-old Dwan has been a celebrity among online poker players for several years as a result of the success he has enjoyed under his screenname "durrr". He was the third largest winner in the high stakes cash games at Full Tilt Poker in 2008 with winnings of $5.3 million. Only Ivey and Galfond were bigger winners with $7.5 and $7 million, respectively.
