Two Danish Poker Players to Box on Saturday
Oddities, 2009-02-19, by Ozone
An oddity in the poker world is taking place this Saturday: two well known players are set to have a boxing match against each other. The match will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark which is the home country of each participant.
Gus Hansen and Theo Jorgensen have been friendly fellow poker players for years, but have decided to set that aside for a few moments Saturday night. The two have wagered money on this event. Hansen receives $25,000 if he wins while Jorgensen, who is actually considered the favorite, would receive $35,000 for victory.
NordicBet.com is offering odds for the event. They've listed Jorgensen as a -285 favorite with Hansen as a +200 underdog.
To prepare for the match, Hansen has been sparring with Danish boxing superstar Mikkel Kessler. In an interview with PokerNews, Hansen claimed he is in better shape than Jorgensen but that Jorgensen has more raw boxing talent.
It is expected that as many as 3,000 people will attend this fight. Many poker players will likely be in the crowd as EPT Copenhagen wraps up the day of the fight. Tickets were selling for $42 apiece.
