2009 NBC National Heads-Up Championship

Tournaments, 2009-03-09, by Ozone

The fifth annual NBC National Heads-Up Championship took place last weekend at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Huck Seed became the only player to go five-for-five on cashing in the event, only this time he did one better by winning the whole thing for $500,000. Previously, Seed had reached the final four twice but had failed to make the championship match.

His opponent in that match, Vanessa Rousso, gave a valiant effort throughout the event. Before losing to Seed and collecting $250,000, Rousso had to navigate her way through the likes of Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, and Bertrand Grospellier.

The losing final four participants were Grospellier and Sam Farha. Noteworthy players who reached the round of 8 were Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu. The likes of Scotty Nguyen, Tom "durrr" Dwan, Erick Lindgren, and John Juanda were among those who cashed by reaching the top 16.
