WPT Season #7: WPT Championship $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em
WPT, 2009-04-26, by Ozone
The $25,000 buy-in World Poker Tour Championship saw a dropoff in participation this year. Just 338 players came together at Bellagio compared to 545 last year.
In just his first year of eligibility in the event, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, perhaps better known by his online screenname 'Jovial Gent', won the title and a cool $2,149,000. Little-known Israeli player Ran Azor finished 2nd for $1.4 million.
By finishing 3rd (for $776,000), Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier passed John Phan to take WPT Player of the Year Honors. Christian 'charder30' Harder took 4th for $571,000. Shannon Shorr finished 5th ($408,000). Scotty Nguyen made yet another huge final table but had to settle for 6th place ($285,000).
The next WPT event will be in Venice, Italy on May 6th.
