Minnesota Seeks to Block Online Gambling
Legislation, 2009-04-29, by Ozone
Minnesota has decided to become the latest state to go on an online gaming witch-hunt. Today, the state asked 11 internet service providers to block access to 200 online gaming sites. They are citing the Wire Act, a law that restricts "common carriers" from doing business with bet-takers, as justification for this request.
This is an unprecedented attempt at blocking online gaming. Internet service providers are not common carriers, so it is therefore very unlikely that a Minnesota court would rule in favor of the state's request.
It is not clear what gaming websites the state is attempting to block.
