Bob Stupak Dies of Leukemia

Bob Stupak, the man who revolutionized the look of the Las Vegas strip by erecting the Stratosphere in 1996, passed away yesterday at Desert Springs Hospital after battling leukemia. He was 67 years old.

Stupak was a well known Vegas gambler and businessman. He won a bracelet in the 1989 WSOP in the Deuce to Seven Lowball event. Just a few months earlier, he won a widely publicized million dollar wager on Super Bowl XXIII.

In 1995, Stupak broke every bone in his face in a motorcycle accident and went into a coma. Doctors did not expect him to survive. He made a full recovery and finished saw his Stratosphere project open a year later.

In 2006, Stupak was in the news again after announcing his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Nevada. He did not win.

Stupak is survived by two sisters, two daughters and one son.
