EPT Season #6: Vilamoura €5,300 No-Limit Hold'em
EPT, 2009-11-23, by Ozone
The European Poker Tour (EPT) just concluded its first ever stop in Portugal. Antonio Matias, a Portuguese businessman, bested a field of 322 to win the €405,000 top prize. It was his first cash in a major poker tournament. With his win, Matias became the first player to win an EPT event in their home country since Sandra Naujoks won in Dortmund, Germany earlier this year.
Seven countries were represented between the eight players at the Vilamoura final table. Portugal was the only country with multiple representatives; João Silva finished 5th for €78,000.
Belgian player Pierre Neuville was runner-up for €257,000. Young Canadian chess-prodigy turned poker player Jeff Sarwer was third for €156,000.
The next stop on the EPT is early next month in Prague.
