EPT Season #6: San Remo €5,000 No-Limit Hold'em

EPT, 2010-04-22, by Ozone

The wildly-popular EPT San Remo was held this week in Italy. A major volcano that disrupted travels all throughout Europe was not enough to stop 1,240 poker players from heading to the felt for this €5,000 buy-in event. It was the largest EPT event held on the continent in terms of field size.

Winning the massive €1,250,000 first place prize was Liv Boeree. She joins Sandra Naujoks and Vicky Coren as female EPT champions. Boeree, a 25 year old from England, had never won more than $42,000 in a single event prior to this tournament.

After starting the final table with roughly one-third of the chips in play, 22 year old Swede Jakob Carlsson emerged as the runner-up earning €750,000 for his efforts.

In a sign of how truly global poker has become, 9 different nations were represented among the top 12 finishers. And in a sign that Americans no longer dominate the game, the top American finisher was PCA champion Harrison Gimbel who finished 39th.

The conclusion of EPT Season 6 takes place next week in Monte Carlo. The €10,000 buy-in event should generate one of the largest prize pools in EPT history.
