WPT Season 8: $25,000 Championship

WPT, 2010-04-26, by Ozone

The final event of World Poker Tour Season 8, the $25,000 Championship at Bellagio, drew just 195 participants. This was a 42% drop from the 338 participants of last year.

David Williams won the tournament for $1.53 million. It was his first victory on the World Poker Tour. Finishing second to Williams was 2009 CardPlayer Player of the Year Eric Baldwin. The $1.03 million for second place was nearly double the size of Baldwin's previous lifetime high.

High-stakes pro David Benyamine took 4th for $329,000. Seven-time bracelet winner Billy Baxter played his way to a 5th place finish worth $249,000. Phil Hellmuth was the TV bubble boy after busting out in 7th.

Faraz Jaka finished 14th in this event which was enough to secure his place as WPT Player of the Year. Jaka had a 2nd and 3rd place finish in $15,000 buy-in events earlier in the season and cashed for a total of over $1.4 million on the year.
