Hellmuth, Duke Part Ways with UB

Online Poker, 2010-12-31, by Ozone

Before there was poker on ESPN, back when Chris Moneymaker was just some small town accountant, Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke were sponsored pros for Ultimate Bet (now known as UB). Today, that is no longer the case. Hours after Duke announced she would no longer be serving as a representative for the controversial site, Hellmuth followed suit.

Both pros have been sponsored by the site since its inception in 2001. Their association with UB was by far the longest-standing relationship between pro poker players and an online poker room prior to its cessation.

Their association with UB became a source of controversy in 2008 when a massive internal cheating scandal was discovered. High stakes players were cheated out of hundreds of thousands in a "superuser" incident led by 1994 World Champ Russ Hamilton. Neither Hellmuth or Duke were suspected of having a role in the incident, but both maintained their representation of Ultimate Bet nevertheless.

What online poker room Hellmuth may sign with next, if any at all, remains unclear. Duke appears unlikely to sign with another poker room after stating that she wishes to explore some avenues of business not pertaining to poker.
