2011 European Poker Awards Recap

International, 2011-02-16, by Ozone

The 10th annual European Poker Awards were held last weekend in Paris, France. It was a big night for England's Jake Cody. The youngster won awards for Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year. Cody has a breakout 2010 in which he won both an EPT and WPT title for a combined $1,640,000. He beat out Theo Jorgensen (Denmark), fellow-countryman Sam Trickett, and Vladmir Schemelev (Russia) to win Player of the Year honors.

Also from England, James Bord won Outstanding Tournament Performance honors for holding off the likes of Phil Ivey and Roland de Wolfe to win the 2010 WSOP Europe Main Event.

Antanas Guoga, better known as Tony G, won the Rob Garner Memorial Award for Poker Personality of the Year. Tony G spent his year working to unveil the identity of Isildur1, tormenting some of the game's top pros with incessant trash talk, and bidding on Peter Eastgate's WSOP bracelet.

A lifetime achievement award was given to poker media ambassador Nic Szeremeta. After Szeremeta received the award, Tony G abruptly came on stage to thank Nic and remind those in attendance that many of them would not have jobs if were not for the work he does.
