WSOP Announces $1 Million Buy-in Event for 2012

WSOP, 2011-06-02, by Ozone

The WSOP is taking high-roller tournaments to a whole new level next year with a $1,000,000 buy-in no-limit hold'em event. The tournament is part of a charity initiative with One Drop, a Montreal foundation that pushes for access to water in underdeveloped nations.

Billed as 'The Big One for One Drop', the three-day tournament will start on July 1st of next year. The winner will receive a specially designed platinum bracelet. Event results will count towards WSOP records like all other open-field events.

The event has been organized primarily by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte. He along with Texas banker Andy Beal, TI casino owner Phil Ruffin, and about a dozen others have all confirmed they will participate.

About 11% of the buy-in will go to the One Drop charity. Caesars plans to waive their fees for hosting the event.
