2011 WSOP Event #9: $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball

WSOP, 2011-06-08, by Ozone

When Matt Perrins took his seat in the $1,500 2-7 draw lowball event, he had never played a single hand of the game in his life. He watched roughly a half hour of YouTube videos on the game and decided to buy in. Two days later, he was strapping WSOP gold on his wrist after winning the whole event.

The UK player's improbable victory brings to mind Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy's win in the 2005 $1,500 7-Card Stud event. Like Perrins, Josephy won that event despite having basically zero experience playing stud. But rather than watching YouTube videos on the game, Josephy picked the minds of a few fellow pros who gave him some tips on how to play stud.

Perrins collected $102,000 for besting the field of 275. It was his first cash in a WSOP event.
