2011 WSOP Event #21: $10,000 Stud Championship

WSOP, 2011-06-15, by Ozone

One of the best all-around poker players in the world, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, is now a WSOP champion. The $10,000 Stud event brought 126 players to the felt giving all of them one of their best chances of the series to win a bracelet.

At one point against heads-up play against Steve Landfish, ElkY was out-chipped 24-to-1. But as they say in poker, as long as you have a chip and a chair, you have a chance. After four hours of heads-up play, ElkY had done the improbable and battled back to win. He pocketed $331,000 for the effort. Landfish received $204,000 for second.

This event was one of the first of the year to draw fewer players than the year before. Last year's field was 16% bigger at 150 players. This could be an indicator of what to expect when another $10,000 buy-in event rolls around: the Main Event.
