2011 WSOP Event #33: $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo Championship
WSOP, 2011-06-21, by Ozone
It's been a bit of a frustrating summer for 11-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. A little over a week ago, Hellmuth was denied his twelve bracelet in the $10,000 2-7 Lowball Championship despite taking a 3-to-1 chip-lead into heads-up play against John Juanda. It was déjà vu for Hellmuth yesterday in the $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo Championship.
After battling through a field of 168, Hellmuth reached heads-up play against Eric Rodawig. His Tweet about "having a good feeling" in this event after he registered for it was looking very prophetic. Unfortunately, Hellmuth was unable to comeback from a chip deficit when the tournament reached heads-up play. He now has two cashes in the 2011 WSOP, both of them for 2nd place.
After the tournament, Hellmuth Tweeted, "Absolutely Played my heart out, but fell short of the 12th bracelet one more time: 2nd place again. Not as depressed this time though..."
Rodawig earned his first bracelet and $442,000. Hellmuth received a $273,000 consolation prize for second place.
