Bwin.Party Forms Joint Venture with U.S. Casino Companies

Online Poker, 2011-10-31, by Ozone

Bwin.Party, operators of Party Poker, and two U.S. based casino groups, MGM and Boyd Gaming, have formed a yet-to-be-named online gaming venture. The new entity was created in anticipation of legalized online gaming in the U.S.

Bwin.Party will own 65% of the company. MGM and Boyd Gaming will own 25% and 10%, respectively.

MGM chief executive Jim Murren said his company would be "very interested" in using Bwin.Party's software technology to operate sites under its own brands like Bellagio, Aria, and Mandalay Bay.

Said Boyd Gaming chief executive Kevin Smith, "We believe that the right approach to offering legal online poker in the United States is through a federal regulatory structure that ensures the games are conducted with the greatest possible integrity and security. Should Congress enact legislation to legalize Internet poker, this agreement will allow us to partner with the world's most experienced and prestigious online operator to offer a secure, fair and entertaining experience for players in the United States."
