2005 WSOP Event #8: $1,500 Seven-Card Stud

There is nothing like a little help from your friends at the right time. Cliff Josephy won the first Stud tournament he has ever entered after receiving a modicum of strategy advice from bracelet winners Scott Fischman and Brett Jungblut.

The New York native Josphy said he came out to Las Vegas just to play in two holdem events but decided to try his hand at 7-card Stud before he left for home. Beginners luck paid off for Josephy, who won his first WSOP gold bracelet and $191,150.

Many know Cliff Josephy by his internet handle, "Johnnybax", and some consider him to be the best online tournament player in the world. Russian native Kirill Gerasimov finished 2nd out of the field of 472 to earn $108,775. Two time bracelet winner Minh Nguyen (not to be confused with Men "the Master" Nguyen) finished in 7th place to earn $24,750. Former top ranked tennis player Yevgeny Kafelnikov finished in 9th place, and shows he might have what it takes to cut it as a professional poker player.

Cliff Josephy was just as surprised as anyone else that he was able to win this tournament. He plans on playing a lot more Stud from here onwards. Thanks to a few words of advice from some world-class pros, Josephy has now carried his internet fame to the felt tables and become a WSOP champion in a game he barely knew how to play.
