Empire Poker Happy Hour
, 2005-07-25, by TwoGun
A common promotion among poker rooms is tournaments with guaranteed prize pools. This means that no matter how many people enter the tournament, the prize pool will be at least a certain amount of money. For example, if a $10+$1 tournament has a $500 guaranteed prize pool, this means that the tournament will pay out at least $500 to the entrants. If only 30 players enter the tournament (making the prize pool $300), the poker room would add money to the prize pool to cover the difference.
Empire Poker commonly has guaranteed prize pools events. Recently, they have launched a "Happy Hour" tournament, which is a $100+$1 tournament with a $10,000 guaranteed prize pool. It remains to be seen if Empire Poker has to add money to the prize pool, but it is nice that the entry fee charged to players is only $1 instead of $9 or $10. This tournament is scheduled to occur daily at 10 pm EST. It is not clear when or if they will discontinue this tournament.
