Sunday's 500k Guaranteed Poker Stars Tournament

, 2005-08-15, by TwoGun

Many know Marcel Luske for his eccentric behavior at the poker table. Luske's antics were shown to the world on ESPN after he finished in the Top 20 of the 2003 and 2004 WSOP Main Event. On Sunday, Marcel showed that his phenomenal abilities extend to the online poker world.

Playing under the online handle "El Capitano", Marcel won the PokerStars 500k Guarantee Tournament, beating out a massive 3188 player field. This tournament takes place every Sunday at 4:30 EST on Poker Stars. Each player paid $200+$15 to participate, which made for a rather large prize pool.

In this tournament, it is customary for the final 2-6 players to strike a deal and split the prize money according to chip stacks. Marcel, who was on the short stack with four players left, refused to make a deal. Perhaps the money did not mean much to Marcel, or he had tremendous confidence in his playing ability. Whatever the reason for not taking a deal, it paid off for Marcel. He came back from the short stack to win the whole tournament and earned a deal-free $127,520 first place prize.
