WCOOP Event #1- $500+$30 NL Hold'em

PokerStars, host of the popular World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP), drew a record number of entrants on Sunday in its first of 15 WCOOP Events. The events will run every day for a total of 15 days. The final event is the $2,500 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event that will have a guaranteed prize pool of $2,500,000.

Event #1, the $800,000 guaranteed No Limit Hold'em event, had a whopping 3,062 entrants. With each of them paying $500+$30 to play in this event, the $800k guarantee was easily covered. Playing for a prize pool of over 1.5 million, 324 online players were fortunate enough to finish in the money.

Among the winners included 20th place finisher "RugDoctor", who is well-rumored to be the online screen name of young poker superstar David Williams. The winner "Snow Leopard" is an unknown player who resides in Downey, California. "Toprose", from Las Vegas, finished 2nd and won $183,200.

The WCOOP continue daily until the September 18th 2.5 Million finale. Nearly all popular forms of online poker are being represented with a WCOOP tournament. Each of the WCOOP tournaments has a guaranteed prize pool. These range from $150,000 up to $2,500,000, though most likely all of the events will draw enough entrants so that the guarantees do not matter.
