Five Diamond World Poker Classic $15k NL Hold'em
WPT EVENT

Submitted by: Ozone

Aside from the $25k buy-in World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship, the Five Diamond World Poker Classic might be the most prestigious stop on the World Poker Tour. The $15,000 buy-in lures the world's best to Las Vegas each year for a chance to become the next WPT champion. This year, 555 players coughed up the pricey entry fee to battle for the $2,000,000 first place prize.

A relatively unknown European player, Rehne Pedersen, battled a tough final table to win the championship. He beat fellow European Patrik Antonius heads-up. Antonius still won over $1,000,000 for his efforts.

Poker legend Doyle Brunson proved he's still got a little hop in his step by finishing 3rd to win $563,000. Entering the final table of six as the chip leader, female pro JJ Liu was unable to become the first female WPT champion, but won $362,000 for the nice effort.

Online poker phenom Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken made his first WPT final table appearance, and took home $241,000 for 5th place. WPT final table regular Phil Laak finished 6th which was good for $160,000.

The next stop on the World Poker Tour is in early January at the Atlantis Casino in the Bahamas for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure
