2006 WSOP SATELLITE REVIEWS
Note: This promotion has expired.
PokerStars has consistently sent more players to the WSOP than any other poker room. The winners of the 2003 and 2004 WSOP both qualified via a WSOP satellite at PokerStars. This year, PokerStars will be giving away $5 million worth of WSOP seats through freerolls, in addition to seats that can be won through standard satellites.
The PokerStars WSOP package is valued at $12,000. Besides the $10,000 buy-in, a PokerStars package rewards players with $1,000 spending money and hotel stay for 9 nights (or an extra $1,000 cash for hotel). Only players that agree to wear PokerStars gear during the Main Event get the free hotel stay.
In addition to the package, PokerStars has several bonuses for players that qualify through its satellites and reach the final table. A final table appearance is worth $100,000, second or third place is worth $250,000, and first place is worth an additional $1,000,000. Not that players really need an extra incentive to reach the final table anyway, but this extra bonus is still nice.
One way to win a WSOP seat for free is by using Frequent Player Points (FPP) to enter satellites. PokerStars is holding three weekly 1,000 FPP buy-in satellites that each award one WSOP package. In addition, there is a once weekly 4,000 FPP buy-in satellite that offers two packages. Smaller FPP satellites are offered that feed into these larger FPP tournaments. It is possible to win a seat to the WSOP through PokerStars for as little as 40 Frequent Player Points.
Simply being an accomplished tournament player on PokerStars may be enough to win a WSOP package without ever having to pay a dime. PokerStars is giving away a total of ten WSOP packages for free to players who perform well on their Tournament Leader Board (TLB). For each month April, May, and June; the top 100 finishers in the monthly TLB will compete in a freeroll that will award two WSOP packages. In addition to this, the top 150 players on the TLB ranging from January 1st, 2006 through June 30th, 2006 will be invited to play in a freeroll that will award four WSOP packages.
VIP Club Freeroll
PokerStars is giving away a generous amount of free WSOP packages through their VIP Club Freerolls. There are four tiers to the PokerStars VIP Club; SilverStar, GoldStar, PlatinumStar, and Supernova. Every week a tournament is held for each of these groups. SilverStar freerolls give away 5 WSOP packages per week. The Supernova tournaments only award one WSOP package per week, but the value of this is very high due to the limited number of players on the network that have obtained Supernova status. The buy-in for these VIP Club Freerolls is 500 FPPs and they are only open to members of the VIP Club. Gaining entry into the VIP Club requires accumulating FPPs by playing games on the network.
Chances are, at any point in the day, there is some form of a cash satellite running on PokerStars that will award a WSOP package. The $150+$10 Double Shootouts are the most popular cash satellites available on PokerStars. These tournaments are limited to 81 entrants who are divided up into 9 single table tournaments. Each of the nine winners advances to the final table to compete for a WSOP package.
Everyday at least one $30+$3 rebuy and add-on tournament is spread that awards seats directly to the WSOP. However, it is important to note that this is a rebuy tournament which might require pouring in more than $100 in an effort to win a seat.
Each Sunday at 6:00 pm EST PokerStars holds their most popular cash satellite to the WSOP, a $615+$35 multi-table tournament. It is likely that more than 50 people will win a WSOP package each week through this popular tournament. There are a seemingly unlimited number of ways to win a seat into this $650 qualifier. Among these ways include popular $15+$1 Double Shootouts, $3 rebuy tournaments, and $80 freezeouts.
